  • The Cheeses That Defined Ron’s Wisconsin Cheese Over 50 Years

    Ron's Wisconsin Cheeses
    Ron’s Wisconsin Cheeses

When a cheese business lasts 50 years, it’s not just because of a good story — it’s because the products earn their place on the table, year after year.

As we celebrate our 50th anniversary, we’re taking a closer look at the cheeses that helped define Ron’s Wisconsin Cheese and kept customers coming back for decades. These are the products that stood the test of time — not because they followed trends, but because they delivered on quality, consistency, and flavor.

Cheese Spreads: A Staple From the Start

Cheese spreads have been a core part of Ron’s Wisconsin Cheese for decades and remain some of our most-loved products today.

From classic flavors to customer favorites like Herbs & Spice, these spreads became popular because they were versatile, reliable, and always full of flavor. Whether served with crackers, spread on sandwiches, or brought to gatherings, they’ve been part of countless everyday moments and special occasions.

They aren’t flashy — they’re dependable. And that’s exactly why people keep reaching for them.

Cheddar: Simple, Honest, and Always in Demand

Cheddar has always been a cornerstone of what we do.

Over the years, our cheddar lineup has evolved, but the goal has never changed: clean flavor, proper aging, and consistency you can taste. From mild to sharp, cheddar remains a customer favorite because it’s versatile enough for everyday use and good enough to stand on its own.

It’s the kind of cheese that doesn’t need explaining — it just needs to be good.

    Cheese Curds: Freshness Matters

Few products represent Wisconsin cheese culture quite like fresh cheese curds.

For years, customers have trusted Ron’s Wisconsin Cheese for curds that deliver on texture, flavor, and freshness. Whether enjoyed straight from the bag, fried, or shared at gatherings, curds have become a must-have item for both locals and customers ordering online.

They’re a reminder that sometimes the simplest products demand the most care.

Cheese Whips & String Cheese: Fun, Functional Favorites

Cheese Whips and String Cheese may feel modern, but their popularity comes from the same principles as everything else we make: quality milk, careful production, and attention to detail.

They’re easy to grab, easy to share, and loved by all ages — which is why they’ve earned a permanent place in our lineup.

    Why These Products Lasted

Not every product makes it through five decades. The ones that do share a few things in common:

    • Consistent quality
    • Honest ingredients
    • Reliable flavor
    • Real customer demand

At Ron’s Wisconsin Cheese, products aren’t kept around because of tradition alone — they stay because customers ask for them again and again.

50 Years of Favorites — and Counting

These cheeses helped shape who we are, but they’re also part of where we’re going. As tastes evolve and new ideas take shape, the foundation remains the same: make products people trust and enjoy.

That commitment is what’s carried Ron’s Wisconsin Cheese through 50 years — and it’s what will guide us into the future.

    Celebrate With the Classics

Experience the cheeses that have brought people back for generations.

  • Valentine’s Day Is Better With Cheese

    Valentines Cheese

    Flowers fade. Chocolates disappear.
    Cheese, however, brings people together.

This Valentine’s Day, skip the predictable gifts and choose Valentine’s Day cheese gifts that invite sharing and connection. Whether you’re planning a cozy night in, building a simple cheese board, or surprising someone with a thoughtful treat, cheese instantly makes Valentine’s Day feel more relaxed, more personal, and far more delicious.

Why Cheese Works So Well for Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be extravagant to feel meaningful. In fact, the best celebrations often happen when you slow down, gather around the table, and enjoy good food together.

Cheese fits the moment perfectly because it:

    • encourages sharing and conversation
    • pairs effortlessly with wine, crackers, fruit, or chocolate
    • feels indulgent without being overdone
    • gives everyone something to enjoy together

As a result, cheese continues to play a role in celebrations year after year.

Valentine’s Day Cheese Gifts Everyone Will Love

Thankfully, creating a memorable Valentine’s Day doesn’t require complicated planning. Instead, a few well-chosen cheeses and simple pairings create an experience that feels thoughtful and intentional.

When building a Valentine’s cheese board, start with:

    • one bold or sharp cheese to add depth
    • one mild or creamy cheese to balance flavors
    • one snackable option for easy sharing

Then, add crackers, sliced apples, grapes, or nuts. Altogether, these elements create a board that feels special without feeling overwhelming.

Choose a Cozy Night In Instead

Rather than battling crowded restaurants, consider staying in.

A cheese-centered Valentine’s dinner encourages grazing, conversation, and connection at your own pace. Whether you spread everything out on the kitchen counter or keep it casual on the coffee table, cheese naturally sets the tone for a relaxed and enjoyable evening — no reservations required.

A Valentine’s Gift That People Actually Use

When it comes to gifting, thoughtfulness matters more than flash.

That’s why Valentine’s Day cheese gifts stand out. They feel unexpected, easy to enjoy together, and perfect for couples, friends, or family. More importantly, they create moments — not clutter.

Pair cheese with a handwritten note, a favorite drink, or a movie night at home, and suddenly the gift feels both personal and practical.

Celebrate Valentine’s Day the Cheesy Way

Ultimately, Valentine’s Day is about connection. It’s about slowing down, sharing something good, and enjoying the moment together.

And just like love, cheese is best when shared.

  • 50 Years of Ron’s Wisconsin Cheese: A Family Story Rooted in Tradition

In February of 1976, Ron and Marilyn Renard took a leap of faith and started what would become Ron’s Wisconsin Cheese. Ron was a licensed cheesemaker and cheese grader with a dream of building something of his own — a place where quality, craftsmanship, and community came first. That dream has now grown into five decades of cheese in Luxemburg, Wisconsin.

From the very beginning, Ron’s Wisconsin Cheese has been about more than just cheese. It was about creating a local gathering place, sharing fresh products with neighbors, and building a business rooted in hard work and family values.

Early 2000s Storefront view of Ron's Wisconsin Cheese Retail Store

From a Small Retail Shop to a Growing Business

In the early years, Ron’s Wisconsin Cheese operated as a small retail cheese store — famously sharing space with a laundromat and even a self-serve carwash. It wasn’t glamorous, but it was honest work, and customers kept coming back for the quality and friendliness they couldn’t find anywhere else .

By 1978, Ron began making cheese spreads, a move that would eventually grow into producing 14 different varieties at that time. The Herbs & Spice Spread quickly became a customer favorite and remains one of the biggest sellers to this day.

    A True Family Business

As the business grew, so did the family’s involvement. In 1990, Ron and Marilyn’s son Terry joined the business after graduating college with a degree in Business Management. Together, Ron and Terry expanded Ron’s Wisconsin Cheese into wholesale, allowing their products to be sold throughout Wisconsin.

Growth continued into the 1990s with a major addition in 1992 that expanded both packaging and retail space. In March of 2000, the company officially incorporated as Ron’s Wisconsin Cheese, Inc., marking a new chapter while staying true to its roots.

    Overcoming Challenges and Moving Forward

Like any long-standing business, Ron’s Wisconsin Cheese has faced its share of challenges. In May of 2002, a fire destroyed the interior of the cheese store, laundromat, and carwash. Thanks to determination, community support, and a lot of hard work, the business was restored over the following six months and reopened stronger than ever.

That same year, the former Luxemburg Clinic building was purchased to provide additional storage and parking — another step forward in preparing the business for the future.

    Passing the Torch

Original Owners of Ron's Wisconsin Cheese

In May of 2005, Ron and Marilyn sold half of the business to another son, Tim. By 2008, Tim and Terry Renard officially took over ownership, with Ron and Marilyn still helping part-time and remaining an important part of daily life at the business.

The family focus never changed — the goal remained the same: to continue offering the freshest, highest-quality cheese products to customers near and far.

    Growing With the Times

Ron's Wisconsin Cheese Official Website in 2009

As the business evolved, so did its reach. In 2009, Ron’s Wisconsin Cheese launched its website, opening the door to online ordering and allowing customers beyond Wisconsin to enjoy their products. In 2015, the business entered a new chapter when ownership transitioned to John T. Pagel, which began the first time Ron’s Wisconsin Cheese began making its own cheese, continuing the farm-focused legacy that customers trust.

Ron’s Wisconsin Cheese is Celebrating 50 Years — and Looking Ahead

From a small shop with a laundromat to a trusted Wisconsin cheese brand, Ron’s Wisconsin Cheese has been built on dedication, family, and a commitment to quality that hasn’t wavered in 50 years.

As we celebrate this milestone, we want to thank every customer, employee, and community member who has been part of the journey. Whether you’ve been shopping with us for decades or just discovered us online, you are part of our story — and we can’t wait to see what the next 50 years bring.

  • Built on Craftsmanship: The Legacy Behind Ron’s Wisconsin Cheese

Fifty years doesn’t happen by accident.

It happens because of skill passed down, values held tight, and a commitment to doing things the right way — even when it’s harder. As we celebrate 50 years of Ron’s Wisconsin Cheese, we want to spotlight the foundation that made everything possible: craftsmanship, family, and a deep respect for the cheesemaking tradition.

A Cheesemaker Before There Was a Cheese Company

    Ron Renard
    Ron Renard

Long before Ron’s Wisconsin Cheese opened its doors, Ron Renard was already making history. In 1960, at just 19 years old, Ron became the youngest licensed cheesemaker in Kewaunee County while working for Casco Cheese.

That early dedication to the craft shaped everything that came later — an understanding that great cheese starts with knowledge, patience, and pride in your work.

Turning a Vision Into a Business

In February of 1976, Ron and Marilyn Renard officially started Ron’s Wisconsin Cheese. In those early days, the focus was on converting and packaging cheese — building relationships, learning the retail side of the business, and earning customer trust one interaction at a time.

It wasn’t about being the biggest. It was about being dependable, local, and consistent.

    A Business Grown With Family

As the years went on, Ron’s Wisconsin Cheese grew — and family played a key role in that growth. In 2005, Ron and Marilyn sold the business to their sons, who operated it for the next nine years.

This transition marked an important chapter: carrying forward the same standards while preparing the business for the future.

A New Chapter, Built on the Same Values

In 2014, the company was purchased by John T. Pagel with a clear goal — to expand the business and make cheese, while honoring the reputation Ron’s Wisconsin Cheese had built over decades.

That commitment to quality and growth continued into the next era, with the business evolving while staying rooted in the principles that customers had come to trust.

    Honoring the Craft Today

    Ben Shibler
    Master Cheese Maker Ben Shibler

In 2023, Head Cheesemaker Ben Shibler earned his Master Cheesemaker License — a milestone that reflects the same dedication to excellence that started over 60 years ago with a 19-year-old licensed cheesemaker.

It’s proof that while times change, craftsmanship remains at the heart of Ron’s Wisconsin Cheese.

50 Years Strong — and Still Moving Forward

This anniversary isn’t just about looking back at dates on a timeline. It’s about recognizing the people, decisions, and standards that shaped who we are today.

From early cheesemaking roots to decades of serving customers, Ron’s Wisconsin Cheese has always been built on knowledge, care, and a genuine love for the craft.

    And that’s something worth celebrating.

  • Why Winter Is the Best Time for Cheese

    Ron's Snow Cheddar
Ron’s Snow Cheddar in the Snow

When most people think about cheese season, summer picnics and holiday gift boxes usually come to mind. But behind the scenes, winter is one of the most important — and underrated — times of year for great cheese.

At Ron’s Wisconsin Cheese, winter plays a huge role in flavor, quality, and consistency. From how cheese ages to how it ships, colder months create conditions that let cheese truly shine.

Here’s why winter might just be the best time to enjoy cheese.

Winter Brings Consistency From Farm to Creamery

Winter also brings consistency on the farm.

Cooler temperatures mean less fluctuation throughout the day, which supports steady milk quality. That consistency matters at every step of the cheesemaking process — from the moment milk enters the plant to the final product being cut, packaged, and enjoyed.

When everything is steady, cheesemakers can focus on precision and craftsmanship.

Cheese Ships Better in the Winter

There’s a practical side to winter cheese, too.

Cold weather helps protect cheese during shipping, especially for customers ordering online. Lower outside temperatures reduce stress on packaging and help cheese arrive in better condition — fresher, firmer, and closer to how it left the creamery.

It’s one of the reasons winter is a favorite season for shipping cheese across the country.

Comfort Food Season Brings Out the Best in Cheese

Let’s be honest — winter is comfort food season.

From cheese boards and melted dishes to cozy snacks by the fire, winter meals tend to highlight cheese in its best form. Sharp cheddars, savory curds, creamy spreads, and snack cheeses all feel right at home this time of year.

Cold days invite slower meals, shared plates, and flavors that linger.

    A Season That Celebrates Craft

While winter may feel quieter on the outside, it’s a busy and meaningful season in the creamery. It’s a time for focus, refinement, and letting good cheese become great cheese.

So if you’re enjoying cheese this winter, know that the season itself plays a role in what you’re tasting. Cold air, steady conditions, and patience all work together to bring out the best in every bite.

Winter may be long in Wisconsin — but when it comes to cheese, that’s a very good thing.

One cheese we think benefits the most from winter is our Snow Cheddar. We tend to make more of it in the wintertime ironically.

  • Looking Back on 2025: Awards, Growth, and a Year That Changed Our Creamery

Cheese Plant Team with 2025 World Dairy Expo Awards
Ron’s Cheese Plant Team with 2025 World Dairy Expo Awards (Team members from left to right: Kiley, Trisha, Dede, Jessica, Haylee, and Morgan)

2025 was a milestone year for Ron’s Wisconsin Cheese — not just because of the awards we brought home, but because of what happened behind the scenes to make those moments possible.

As we step into the first week of 2026, we’ve been reflecting on a year that challenged us, stretched us, and ultimately rewarded us in ways we’re incredibly proud of.

A Year of Recognition on the National Stage

One of the biggest highlights of 2025 was seeing our cheese recognized across some of the most respected competitions in the dairy industry.

At the 2025 Wisconsin State Fair, our products earned:

At the 2025 American Cheese Society competition, we were honored with:

And at the 2025 World Dairy Expo, we celebrated some of our strongest results yet:

    2025 World Dairy Expo Award

Each award represented countless hours of work — from milk quality and make procedures to aging, handling, and consistency. Seeing that effort recognized by industry judges was a powerful reminder that doing things the right way truly matters.

A Milestone Year in the Cheese Plant

2025 wasn’t just big in awards — it was historic for our creamery.

This year marked the largest volume of cheese ever made in our cheese plant since it was built 10 years ago. That’s something we don’t take lightly.

With that increase came record-high cheese sales — the highest we’ve seen to date. Demand grew faster than ever, and with it came a major learning curve. Scaling production while maintaining quality meant adjusting processes, refining schedules, and sometimes learning lessons the hard way.

There were long days, fast pivots, and moments where we had to stop and ask, “How do we do this better next time?” Those moments shaped how we operate today.

    Growth Comes With Growing Pains

With record production and sales came challenges we didn’t always anticipate.

We had to adapt quickly — whether it was managing increased demand, navigating busy shipping seasons, or rethinking how we communicate timelines and expectations. It wasn’t always smooth, but it was always intentional.

Every adjustment made us stronger, more efficient, and more prepared for the future.

Gratitude for the People Who Made It Happen

None of this would have been possible without the people behind the scenes.

Our team showed incredible dedication throughout 2025, stepping up during peak production, busy holiday weeks, and everything in between. Their commitment to quality and pride in their work is reflected in every award and every order shipped.

And to our customers — thank you.

Your support, loyalty, and trust are the reason we continue to grow. Every order, gift box, review, and recommendation helped make 2025 the year it was.

    Looking Ahead to 2026

As we move into 2026, we’re carrying forward everything 2025 taught us — the wins, the lessons, and the motivation to keep improving.

We’re excited to build on this momentum, continue crafting award-winning cheese, and stay true to what matters most: quality, care, and community.

Thank you for being part of this journey with us. Here’s to another year of great cheese and even greater growth. 🧀

  • What Makes Aged Cheddar Taste So Good?

    11 Year Old Cheddar
11 Year aged Cheddar is a stand-alone cheese. No need for crackers and meant to be enjoyed with a glass of fine wine.

The Magic of Time and Tradition

Cheddar is one of Wisconsin’s most beloved cheeses — and for good reason. But what exactly makes aged cheddar so irresistible? The answer lies in a simple formula: quality milk, careful craftsmanship, and plenty of time.

At Ron’s Wisconsin Cheese, we craft our cheddar right on our family farm in Kewaunee, using milk from our own cows. Once the cheese is made, it’s aged under controlled conditions that allow the flavors to deepen and mature naturally — just like fine wine or a good sourdough starter.

    How Aging Changes Flavor

When cheddar is first made, it’s mild, creamy, and buttery. Over time, natural enzymes and cultures begin to break down proteins and fats inside the cheese, transforming both its texture and taste.

    • 1–3 months: Smooth and mellow, perfect for sandwiches or snacking.
    • 6–12 months: Sharper, with a firmer bite and nutty undertones.
    • 1 year + : Bold, crumbly, and complex — the true taste of aged cheddar.

Every block develops its own personality depending on how long it ages, how it’s stored, and even the humidity of the room. That’s why no two batches are ever exactly alike.

    The Wisconsin Difference

Here in Wisconsin, aging cheese isn’t just science — it’s heritage. The cold Midwestern climate and generations of cheesemaking expertise create the ideal environment for long, slow flavor development.

At Ron’s, we use milk that travels only 90 seconds from our barn to our cheese plant, ensuring freshness and purity before aging begins. That short distance makes a big difference in the final taste and texture.

    How to Enjoy Aged Cheddar

Whether you like it mild or sharp enough to make you pucker, cheddar fits every occasion.

    Try these serving ideas:

    • Pair aged cheddar with tart apples or grapes for contrast.
    • Melt it into mac and cheese for next-level flavor.
    • Shave over chili, burgers, or roasted veggies.
    • Serve cubes with local sausage and mustard for an easy snack board.

Why We Love It (and You Will Too)

Aged cheddar tells a story of patience and place. Each wheel carries the character of Wisconsin — the freshness of local milk, the skill of our cheesemakers, and the reward of time.

So the next time you bite into a piece of sharp, crumbly cheddar, remember: good things really do come to those who wait.

  • Cheers to Cheese: A Look Back at a Year of Wisconsin Tradition

As the year comes to a close, we find ourselves reflecting on what makes Wisconsin cheese — and our work at Ron’s Wisconsin Cheese — so special. It isn’t just the milk, or the curds, or even the cheddar. It’s the people.

From our family farm in Kewaunee to your family’s kitchen table, every bite of cheese we make tells a story about hard work, connection, and a shared love for great food.

From Our Farm to Your Table

Each day starts early here — the hum of the milking parlor, the rhythm of cheesemaking, and the quiet satisfaction of seeing fresh curds come to life.

Because our milk comes from our own cows and travels just 90 seconds from barn to plant, freshness is something we can taste and trust. It’s this short journey — and the long hours of dedication — that make each block, bag, and spread distinctly ours.

This year, we’ve shared that story with more homes across Wisconsin and beyond. And whether you’ve bought a bag of squeaky curds, tried Snow Cheddar for the first time, or sent a Wisconsin Cheese Gift Box to a friend, you’ve become part of the Ron’s story too.

    The Power of Wisconsin Tradition

Wisconsin isn’t just the Dairy State — it’s a community built around cheese. It’s Friday night fish fries with deep-fried cheddar cheese curds on the side, tailgates stocked with all the bloody mary accouterments like cheese whips, and families passing down recipes that start with “a little butter and a lot of cheese.”

At Ron’s, we’re proud to carry that legacy forward. Every batch we make reflects the generations before us who believed that food made with care simply tastes better.

    A Year of Gratitude

To our loyal customers, new friends, and everyone who’s supported our farmstead dairy — thank you. Your enthusiasm keeps us motivated and reminds us why we do what we do.

This year, we saw more visitors at local markets, more online orders from cheese lovers nationwide, and more families gifting Wisconsin cheese during the holidays. Each moment has meant the world to us.

What’s Next for the New Year

As we look ahead, we’re excited for what’s to come — new recipes, new stories, and the same promise of quality that’s been with Ron’s Wisconsin Cheese since day one.

We’ll keep doing what we do best: making cheese that brings people together.

🧀 Here’s to Another Year of Wisconsin Flavor

From all of us at Ron’s Wisconsin Cheese — thank you for being part of our journey.
