Your Thanksgiving Cheese Board Game Plan

Gather, Graze, and Give Thanks
Thanksgiving isnโt just about the turkey โ itโs about gathering, grazing, and sharing food that brings people together. A beautiful Wisconsin cheese board sets the stage for connection, conversation, and flavor before the main feast even begins.
This year, create a spread thatโs equal parts rustic and refined using Ronโs Wisconsin Cheese โ handcrafted right on our Kewaunee farm. From squeaky curds to creamy spreads, itโs everything you need for a board that looks stunning and tastes unforgettable.
Step 1: Choose 3โ5 Cheeses
Variety is the key to a great cheese board. Mix textures, colors, and flavor profiles for balance.
Ronโs picks for the holiday table:
- ๐ง Snow Cheddar โ Naturally white with nutty, sweet notes that pair beautifully with cranberries or apples.
- ๐ง Three Pepper Cheddar โ Bold and Spicy, complex depth; perfect for bold palates.
- ๐ง Cheese Spreads โ Easy, creamy, and crowd-pleasing; serve with pretzels or crostini.
- ๐ง Fresh Cheese Curds โ For snacking while you cook (or to keep kids happy before dinner!).
๐ Shop All Wisconsin Cheeses โ
Step 2: Add Complementary Flavors
Think salty, sweet, crunchy, and fresh. Surround your cheeses with pairings that highlight Wisconsinโs best fall flavors.
Try adding:
- Local meats like summer sausage or smoked turkey
- Cranberry chutney, fig jam, or honey
- Sliced apples, pears, or grapes
- Roasted nuts (pecans, almonds, or walnuts)
- Artisan crackers or rustic bread
The goal? Every bite should have contrast โ creamy + crunchy, sharp + sweet, simple + surprising.
Step 3: Presentation Makes It Special
Choose a large wooden board or slate. Start with the cheeses first, spacing them evenly. Then fill the gaps with fruits, nuts, and crackers.
Add a few cheese knives or spreaders, label each cheese, and garnish with sprigs of rosemary or thyme for a festive touch.
Pro tip: Let cheese sit out for about 30 minutes before serving โ it enhances the flavor and aroma.
Step 4: Pair It Like a Pro
Round out the experience with Wisconsin-inspired drinks:
- Wine: Pinot Noir or Chardonnay with Snow Cheddar.
- Beer: Amber ales or malty lagers pair beautifully with aged cheddar.
Step 5: Keep the Celebration Going
After the feast, your guests will ask where the cheese came from โ and thatโs your cue to share!
Encourage them to explore Ronโs Wisconsin Cheese Gift Boxes. They make perfect hostess gifts or thank-you surprises throughout the holiday season.
๐งก From Our Farm to Your Feast
Whether youโre setting the table for family or friends, a handcrafted Wisconsin cheese board makes Thanksgiving more memorable.
Every bite of Ronโs cheese carries the flavor of Kewaunee โ fresh milk, farmstead pride, and genuine Wisconsin hospitality.

A Legacy of Cheese: How Wisconsin Became the Dairy State

Wisconsinโs love affair with cheese runs deep โ and itโs no coincidence the state proudly wears the title Americaโs Dairyland. From humble beginnings to a booming, world-class industry, the story of Wisconsin cheese is one of hard work, heritage, and flavor thatโs recognized around the globe.
๐งโ๐พ It Started with the Land
In the mid-1800s, European immigrants โ especially from Germany, Switzerland, and the Netherlands โ brought centuries-old cheesemaking traditions to Wisconsin. They quickly saw the landโs potential. With a cool climate, lush pastures, and abundant fresh water, Wisconsin was perfect for raising dairy cows and producing rich, high-quality milk.
As small dairy farms spread across the state, families began turning surplus milk into cheese. It wasnโt just a practical way to preserve milk โ it became a staple of local diets and a source of pride for farming communities. Cheesemaking soon wove itself into the cultural fabric of Wisconsin life.
๐ง An Industry Takes Shape
By the early 20th century, Wisconsin had surged to the top of U.S. cheese production โ and it hasnโt let go of the title since. Rural cheese factories flourished, and skilled cheesemakers trained new generations through hands-on apprenticeships. Innovation in aging techniques, flavor development, and equipment design kept Wisconsin ahead of the curve.
Today, the state produces over 600 varieties, types, and styles of cheese, from classic cheddars and squeaky curds to award-winning artisan creations. Wisconsin also boasts more Master Cheesemakers than anywhere else in the world, ensuring each wheel and wedge meets the highest standards of quality.
๐งก Carrying the Legacy at Ronโs Wisconsin Cheese
At Ronโs Wisconsin Cheese, weโre honored to be part of this rich cheesemaking heritage. From our farmstead operation in Kewaunee County to our family-run production facility in Luxemburg, every batch we make carries forward the values that built Wisconsinโs reputation: quality ingredients, skilled craftsmanship, and local pride.
We use milk from our own cows, ensuring freshness and consistency from pasture to plate. Our lineup โ from Snow Cheddar to squeaky fresh cheese curds โ reflects the same dedication Wisconsin cheesemakers have shown for generations.
For us, cheesemaking isnโt just a business; itโs a way to honor our roots, support our community, and share the unmistakable flavor of Wisconsin with cheese lovers everywhere.
๐ Fun Facts About Wisconsin Cheese
- Wisconsin produces over 3.4 billion pounds of cheese annually.
- The state was the first in the U.S. to require cheesemaker licensing (since 1994).
- Only Wisconsin offers the rigorous Master Cheesemaker Program โ the โPh.D. of cheese.โ
- Cheese curds are so popular here that they have their own dedicated festivals.
Whether youโre a lifelong Wisconsinite or a cheese-loving visitor, one thing is certain โ when you enjoy Wisconsin cheese, youโre tasting over 175 years of tradition, innovation, and passion.

๐ Celebrating June Dairy Month at the Farm
๐ Celebrating June Dairy Month at the Farm
At Ronโs Wisconsin Cheese, we spent the month doing what we do best: making fresh, handcrafted cheese right here on our family farm in Kewaunee. Hereโs a look back at how we celebrated June Dairy Month (and how we carry that spirit all year long).
๐ง Farmstead Cheese, Made Fresh Daily
All month long, our team crafted batches of fresh cheese curds, Snow Cheddar, mozzarella whips, and more โ using milk from our very own herd.
Dairy Month is a reminder that real cheese starts with real farms. No shortcuts. No outsourcing. Just good milk, happy cows, and generations of know-how.

๐ธ Behind-the-Scenes Moments
We shared a few sneak peeks on Facebook and Instagram โ from stirring curds in the vat to packaging squeaky-fresh bags for delivery. Thank you to everyone who liked, commented, and tagged us in your own cheese celebrations!
Didnโt see them? Follow along @ronswisconsincheese for more behind-the-scenes fun.

๐ Cheese, Events & Local Stores
Throughout June, we stocked shelves and coolers across Wisconsin with our best-selling cheeses. We also visited a few local events to hand out samples and connect with curd lovers in person.
We even chatted with our friends at We Are Green Bay. See the video here.
If you spotted Ronโs in your local store or at a sporting event, tag us with #SnackWithRons โ weโd love to feature your photo!
๐งก A Huge Thank You
To our farm team, cheesemakers, delivery drivers, and loyal customers โ THANK YOU. Dairy Month is a celebration of all of you.
Weโre proud to be part of Wisconsinโs dairy legacy. And weโll keep honoring it every month of the year โ one curd at a time.
