Earlier this year, marked an important moment for dairy farmers across the country.

With the signing of the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act, schools will once again be allowed to serve whole and 2% milk in school cafeterias — restoring choice for families and recognizing the nutritional value of real dairy for growing children.

We were especially proud to see Jamie Witcpalek — co-owner of Ron’s Wisconsin Cheese and Pagel’s Ponderosa Dairy — in attendance at the signing ceremony in Washington, D.C. Representing Wisconsin dairy families at the national level is an honor, and a responsibility we do not take lightly.

You can view an interview with Jamie talking about her visit to the White House in a segment here on Midwest Farm Weekly:

Why This Matters for Families

For years, many schools were limited to offering only fat-free or low-fat milk options. While the goal was to promote health, it overlooked an important fact:

Milk is a naturally nutrient-dense, whole food.

Whole milk provides:

  • High-quality protein
  • Calcium for bone development
  • Naturally occurring milk fats
  • Fat-soluble vitamins like A and D

Healthy fats play a role in nutrient absorption and satiety — especially important for growing children.

As dairy farmers and cheesemakers, we see firsthand how milk is produced and handled with care from start to finish. Policies that recognize the full value of dairy matter to farm families like ours.

For more details on the legislation itself, you can read about the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act through national dairy advocacy organizations like the National Milk Producers Federation (nmpf.org).

From Our Farm to Your Family

At Ron’s Wisconsin Cheese, we are a true farmstead operation.

The milk used to craft our cheese comes directly from our own herd at Pagel’s Ponderosa Dairy in Kewaunee County. That milk travels just steps — not miles — to become cheese made on-site.

If you’ve ever enjoyed our:

You are tasting the direct connection between dairy farming and cheesemaking.

That connection is what makes moments like this so meaningful.

Leadership in Dairy

Jamie’s presence at the signing ceremony reflects something we deeply believe:

Dairy farmers should have a voice in conversations that affect dairy families.

From caring for our cows to milking, to cheesemaking, to shipping products nationwide through our online store, we are involved in every step of the process. Being part of industry conversations ensures that policies reflect real-world farming and nutrition.

Wisconsin is America’s Dairyland for a reason — and we are proud to help carry that tradition forward.
